Cornas North Rhone France

Cornas North Rhone France

Cornas  is one of the smallest appellations in the Rhône valley and produces around 4,500 litres of red wine using exclusively Syrah grapes .

The vines grow on a small area of steep slopes facing east south east, thatrise up to 400 meters above sea level.

The soil in the north is sandy and rocky, though some high lying vineyards contain granite, while southern ones are mostly clay.

Traditionally Cornas wines require six to seven years or even longer to age and develop. These are strong, powerful tannic, dense wines that can mellow with age and should be purchased only after careful consideration of the vintage and producer.
